Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre is Officially LEED Gold Certified

We are pleased to announce that the Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre has been officially certified as a LEED Gold project by the Canada Green Building Council. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is one of the most common certification standards for sustainably constructing buildings. The project was certified with 64 points on the LEED scale with LEED Gold requiring at least 60 points.
From the beginning of the project, our construction leadership team of alumni volunteers set out to ensure the building systems and construction processes attained a high sustainable standard. A few examples of the achievements are noted below:
- 32% water reduction vs average
- 46% reduction in energy use vs average
- 76% of construction waste diverted from landfill
- 14% of construction materials are from recycled material
- 83% of wood is FSC certified
The achievement of LEED Gold for the alumni centre was a team effort that also relied on leadership from the architects (HCMA and KPMB), construction team (Syncra), and project team (UBC Properties Trust). It required all the consultants and contractors to follow strict guidelines and provide detailed documentation. We are very grateful for their diligence.
