KPMB will contribute to two sessions at the Future of Design and Construction Summit in Toronto on November 4 and 5.
Hosted by Building Transformations at the MaRS Discovery District, the summit brings together architects, contractors, engineers, owners, and consultants to discuss how technology and innovation are transforming the way the AEC industry designs, builds, and operates.
On November 4, Glenn MacMullin, Bernard Jin, and Claudia Cozzitorto will lead a construction tour of CAMH’s Temerty Discovery Centre.
When completed next year, the hybrid mass timber and concrete research facility, designed by KPMB with Treanor, will unite two-thirds of the institution’s research staff under one roof. The building is among the first in North America to employ a bubble deck slab system, which reduces embodied carbon by eliminating unnecessary concrete.
During the tour, attendees will learn how the team balanced the demands of laboratory planning with ambitious carbon targets and how digital tools and processes supported design and construction.
On November 5, Claudia will lead a facilitated discussion with building owners, contractors, designers, and consultants centred on a single question: how can the AEC industry work together more effectively? Through Breaking Down Silos: A Collaborative Workshop on Project Delivery, participants will share experiences and identify opportunities to improve collaboration, information sharing, and project delivery.
