Ten students receive KPMB-funded bursaries from Indspire

In Canada, only 0.3 percent of architects identify as Indigenous. Among the estimated 10,000 architects working across the country, that equates to 30 architects.

Improving access to education is an important step in addressing the historic underrepresentation of Indigenous peoples in architecture.

KPMB is proud to support Indspire’s Building Brighter Futures program, which provides bursaries to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students as they pursue higher education.

Since first partnering with Indspire in 2021, KPMB has helped financially assist dozens of students as they study architecture and related fields, like architectural technology, landscape architecture, and urban and regional planning.

During the 2025-26 academic year, our contributions supported 10 undergraduate and graduate students as they studied at the University of Manitoba, Dalhousie University, University of British Columbia, Thompson Rivers University, University of Calgary, and Laurentian University.

“It’s inspiring to see the results of our ongoing partnership with Indspire,” says KPMB founding partner Shirley Blumberg. “The number of Indigenous students that they support in higher education related to architecture and landscape design is encouraging for the future of our profession.”
