KPMB is pleased to be a founding member of the Canadian Association for the Practice of Architecture (CAPA), joining peers across the country in advocating for the business interests of architectural firms.
KPMB managing partner Phyllis Crawford has been instrumental in CAPA’s formation, bringing deep insight into the evolving challenges and opportunities affecting practices.
“We all benefit when architectural services are recognized as an important part of Canada’s economy and when we speak as one,” says Phyllis. “Improving business conditions might not be why most architects entered this line of work, but it’s essential for realizing architecture’s highest ambitions. When firms are healthy and resilient, they’re better positioned to address the complex issues facing our communities.”
With 23 of Canada’s leading firms as founding members, CAPA was formed in response to the challenges shared by practices nationwide. As part of its mandate, the association will participate in wide-ranging conversations about how firms compete for work, deliver services, and adapt to evolving economic, regulatory, and policy conditions.
The association is being led by Kristen Harrison, MRAIC, who was recently appointed as executive director.
“We formed CAPA because Canadian architecture firms need a strong, coordinated voice grounded in the business realities of practice,” says Kristen. “Our goal is to support firms through change, advocate for better conditions, and help ensure they can continue delivering meaningful work through healthy and sustainable practices.”
