The Scotiabank North Flagship received a 2024 SBID International Design Award, awarded in London on November 1.
The SBID International Design Awards celebrate exceptional talent across the interior design industry, spotlighting the interior designers, product designers, and contractors who are shaping the future of the profession.
This year, Scotiabank North stood out as the only Canadian finalist among the three projects shortlisted in the “Office Design Over 2,000 SqM – Americas” category.
Located in the KPMB-designed Bay Adelaide North, Scotiabank North is the bank’s first global headquarters in decades. Developed in close collaboration with Scotiabank’s design team, employees, and a group of consultants, this new flagship location reflects equitable and democratic design principles focused on inclusion, accessibility, health, and wellness.
Spaces for connection and socialization in Scotiabank North were given just as much attention as workstations. Unique third spaces are located throughout, including a full-floor staff lounge known as “North Commons,” interconnected bistros on floors six through nine, an art gallery, a reflection and personal care room, and a fully furnished terrace.
The design also supports Scotiabank’s activity-based work culture. Floor plans, furniture, and technology were selected to cater to the needs of the bank’s various business lines, from group treasury to corporate banking. Employees have workspaces for different tasks, from work studios and hoteling desks to quiet zones and private offices.
