The recently completed Scotiabank North Flagship is making headlines. Our design for the bank’s first global headquarters in decades — located in the KPMB-designed Bay Adelaide North — blends workspaces with hospitality-driven spaces, creating memorable experiences for both clients and employees. Or as the AZURE feature notes, “treat[ing] both clients and employees like top executives.”
The new flagship location, a finalist for the 2024 SBID International Design Awards, represents a holistic approach to modern workplace design and a strategic move towards a more democratic design approach that supports a variety of work styles and activities. THE PLAN called it “an innovative vision for workspaces of the future.”
Working with the concept of “hosting your employees,” the project team designed unique amenities – crafted with input from Scotiabank’s design team, employees, and consultants – such as an art gallery, a reflection and personal care room, bistros, a full-floor lounge, and other versatile third spaces for productivity, collaboration, and socialization. The result is as Eric Mutrie writes for AZURE, “a finely attuned balance of work and play.”
Scotiabank North’s design was also tailored to support the bank’s activity-based work culture. Floor plans, furniture, and technology were selected to cater to the needs of the bank’s various business lines, from group treasury to corporate banking. Employees have workspaces for different tasks, from work studios and hoteling desks to quiet zones and private offices.
The project is also featured in MUUUZ, Archilovers, and Office Snapshots.
