Mouna Naoui to co-lead LeBreton Flats walking tour in Ottawa

For generations, LeBreton Flats has been one of Ottawa’s greatest untapped urban opportunities. Located just west of downtown along the Ottawa River, the site was largely vacant for decades following expropriation and failed redevelopment efforts that began in the 1960s.
Today, that story is changing. LeBreton Flats is emerging as a complete, mixed-use urban community with generous public spaces, pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly infrastructure, and strong transit connectivity.
On October 22, KPMB’s Mouna Naoui will co-lead a walking tour exploring the evolution of LeBreton Flats as part of Capitalising Design, a three-day forum hosted by the Council for Canadian Urbanism.
The walking tour begins at the Canadian War Museum. Designed by Moriyama Teshima Architects and completed in 2005, it was among the first major projects in the area’s redevelopment. The museum portion of the tour will be led by MTA partner Emmanuelle van Rutten and associate Carolyn Gillespie.
Led by Mouna, the second half of the tour will visit Odenak, a mixed-use residential community developed by Dream and designed by the joint venture of KPMB and Perkins&Will with Two Row Architect.
Scheduled for completion in 2027, the two-tower development represents the next chapter in the multi-decade transformation of LeBreton Flats into an integrated, connected, and complete urban neighbourhood.
The walking tour is sponsored by Building Equality in Architecture Capital Region (BEACAP).
