KPMB founding partner Bruce Kuwabara will speak at the 2026 Canadian Arts Summit in Banff, Alberta on Saturday, April 11, sharing insights from a multi-decade architectural career that has shaped some of Canada’s most recognized arts and cultural venues.
The three-day summit, running from April 9 to 11, convenes cross-sector leaders to shape a collective vision for the future of the arts in Canada. The theme of this year’s summit is “Arts Together: Charting a National Vision for Engagement and Action.” Key topics of discussion include supporting artists, navigating the impacts of digital technologies, and developing infrastructure and investment needed to sustain Canada’s creative future.
Kuwabara will join the panel “Future Horizons: A National Vision for the Arts,” discussing a future where the arts are recognized as a vital pillar of the Canadian economy, democracy, and communities nationwide. He will be joined by writer and storyteller Jesse Wente, Shorefast and Fogo Island Arts strategic director Kitty Scott, and Shaw Festival associate artistic director Kimberley Rampersad. The conversation will be moderated by Annabelle Cloutier, president and CEO of the National Arts Centre.
Throughout his career, Kuwabara and KPMB have designed art galleries, museums, and other cultural venues across Canada, guided by a deep understanding of the vital role such institutions play in sustaining healthy communities.
Notable projects include the TIFF Lightbox and the Remai Modern, with the latter designed as an urban catalyst for Saskatoon’s south downtown. Kuwabara is also leading Agnes Reimagined at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and the transformation of Calgary’s Centennial Planetarium into a destination for modern and contemporary art — both of which are under construction. In collaboration with Alfred Waugh and Formline Architecture + Urbanism, Kuwabara and KPMB are also designing the new home for the Vancouver Art Gallery.
The Canadian Arts Summit is organized by Business/Arts, a national charitable organization championing business investment in the arts and facilitating partnerships between the arts, business, and government.
The 2026 summit is hosted at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. In the past decade, KPMB has worked with the Banff Centre to lead the renovation of Lloyd Hall and the design of the Jenny Belzberg Theatre.
