On September 25, founding partner Bruce Kuwabara will join the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) in Hamilton for a West Harbour walking tour and a presentation on the Renewal of Hamilton’s Waterfront through Partnerships and Design Excellence.
As part of its 2024 conference, the OPPI brings together presenters Kuwabara and Andrea Smith, Chris Phillips, and Peter Fortune from the City of Hamilton to discuss the transformation of West Harbour from an industrial site to a mixed-used community and waterfront destination.
Kuwabara will speak about Pier 8, a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use residential community coming to Hamilton. In 2018, with superkül, gh3*, and Omar Gandhi Architects, KPMB prepared the competition-winning design for a master plan vision to transform Pier 8 into a new neighbourhood — an engaged community that is inclusive, open and accessible.
Following the presentation, attendees will be led on a walking tour of the West Harbour, visiting key spots and learning about upcoming projects, including the design vision for the future Pier 8, the reuse of the former Canadian Marine Discovery Centre as a library, Indigenous gathering space and café, and public art installations.
