David Zenk

Principal, AIA, LEED AP, NCARB

David Zenk joined KPMB in 2025 to lead the firm’s Cambridge, Massachusetts studio — its first outside of Toronto — and guide its expansion in the United States.

Before KPMB, David spent more than 30 years at GUND Partnership. The Cambridge-based architecture and planning firm specialized in the design of academic buildings, arts facilities, libraries, and athletic venues for colleges and universities across the country. David was hired by GUND in 1994. He rose to managing principal, where he led the firm alongside founder Graham Gund. David directed the firm’s project design exploration, guided its senior design management group, and oversaw business development strategy.

Drawing on his decades of experience in educational design, David has developed a portfolio of built work that meets the ever-evolving needs of academic institutions and responds thoughtfully to their campus contexts. He led many of GUND’s most significant projects, including the Chalmers Library at Kenyon College in Ohio, the Dana G. Hoyt Fine Arts Building at Sam Houston State University in Texas, and the Nancy R. and Norton T. Dodge Performing Arts Center and Learning Commons at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

David is an active member of the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) and the American Library Association (ALA). He is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics related to educational design, such as the shifting role of libraries on university and college campuses.

A registered architect in Massachusetts, David is NCARB-certified and a member of both the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Boston Society of Architects. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Minnesota’s School of Architecture.
