Associate Roxane Bejjany is heading to the Healthcare Design (HCD) Conference & Expo in Kansas City, Missouri. On October 27, Bejjany will share insights into KPMB and Stantec’s collaborative efforts to redevelop the downtown Toronto campus of the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), recently recognized as the world’s leading pediatric hospital

The session, “Research, Ideation, and Exploration: A Collaborative Approach to Transforming Pediatric Hospitals”, will be co-led by Stantec senior principal Tim Eastwood. The pair will discuss how the collaboration between design and client teams has integrated ideation, prototyping, and engagement-driven planning. Together, these efforts envision a redeveloped campus that will embody SickKids’ excellence in care and research, and empower patients, families, staff, and researchers.

The presentation will also address the emergence of individualized medicine. Precision Child Health is SickKids’ unique approach to pediatric care combining genomic profiling with environmental factors to predict, prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases. Consequently, the hospital’s future campus will support data-driven and patient-centred care.

“Research, Ideation, and Exploration” will also offer insights into addressing aging infrastructure, the challenges posed by a dense urban site, maintaining operations through redevelopment, and integrating campuses into their urban contexts.
