On June 7, members of the design and academic community joined Partner Paulo Rocha and Boston University’s Dennis Carlberg, Chief Sustainability Officer and VP for Climate Action for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Duan Family Center for Computing & Data Sciences, a vertical campus redefining sustainable design in higher education.

From Plan to Action: Designing a Resilient Learning Hub invited participants to step inside a landmark that embodies Boston University’s Climate Action Plan and vision for interdisciplinary learning. Rising boldly from a compact urban site, the building brings together over 3,000 students, faculty, and staff from the computing and data sciences departments into a collaborative, human-centered environment.

Rocha and Carlberg shared insights into how the building’s design and construction process was shaped by deep collaboration between the university, the architectural team at KPMB, and engineering partners.
