KPMB is a proud sponsor of the Toronto edition of Park(ing) Day, a participatory art project happening in cities around the world between September 18–20.
In 15 locations across Toronto, parking spaces will be temporarily repurposed as venues for art, play, education, socializing, and urban activism.
The annual event began in 2005 as a public art and design project in San Francisco, celebrating the value of public space and questioning the dominance of cars within the city. It has since spread to dozens of countries. Dubbeldam Architecture + Design established the Toronto edition of Park(ing) Day in 2022 and continues to organize the annual installations.
With more than 20,000 metred on-street parking spaces and 40,000 off-street parking spaces in Toronto, Park(ing) Day Toronto draws attention to the need for more public spaces in the city’s dense urban areas, with a focus on sustainable and circular design.
This year’s installations are wide-ranging in their ambition and creative expression. They include converting parking spaces into open-air art galleries, temporary living rooms, public writing rooms, stages for education and performance, and places for speaking with strangers.
Park(ing) Day is happening in 15 locations throughout Toronto between September 18–20.
