On April 9, principal Chris McQuillan will present new research on the potential of mass timber to transform the design and construction of high-rise hospital inpatient units.
Informed by a study developed in collaboration with Fast + Epp, CHM Fire Consultants, Smith + Andersen, RPG (Resource Planning Group), Hanscomb, AMB Planning, and British Columbia’s Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), the research examines the performance of wood as a naturally anti-microbial surface and explores how exposed mass timber may enhance productivity, recovery, and wellness in healthcare settings —where these benefits carry both ethical and economic weight.
We also take a broader look at wood’s potential to reduce carbon emissions and support a more sustainable built environment.
