Chris McQuillan discusses mass timber hospitals at the Healthcare Infrastructure conference for Atlantic Canada

Article content
On Tuesday July 15th, KPMB principal Chris McQuillan will present “Mass Timber: Examining the Potential for Acute Care Settings” at the Canadian Institute’s Atlantic Canada Healthcare Infrastructure conference.
Tapping Chris’ decades of experience in healthcare facility design, the presentation will explore a pressing question: what role should mass timber play in our future hospitals? Despite its reduced carbon footprint and biophilic benefits, mass timber has yet to be widely accepted by the Canadian healthcare sector.
The presentation will explore mass timber’s viability for acute care facilities. Chris will discuss the benefits and limitations of the material, outline opportunities for future innovation, and explore the schematic design of an imagined in-patient tower built of mass timber.
