Mitchell Hall
OAA , Senior Associate
mhall@kpmbarchitects.com Mitchell Hall was born in Montreal and educated at Carleton University in Ottawa where he received the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s Medal for Academic Achievement. He joined KPMB in 1989, and was made an associate in 1995. He has worked on a number of the firm's award-winning projects, including the Design Exchange in Toronto, Kitchener City Hall, and Woodsworth College at the University of Toronto. As a senior associate of KPMB, Mitch is known for his commitment to innovation, high standards of execution and craftsmanship in all aspects of his design work. He has consistently challenged existing paradigms and expanded the firm's knowledge base in a range of project typologies. Recently, Mitch was the associate-in-charge of the McGill University and Genome Quebec Innovation Centre. Conceived as an alternative to typical lab buildings in which activities are isolated and partitioned, the design provides an integrated environment that promotes interaction and transparency. Other recent projects include the internationally acclaimed Jackson-Triggs Niagara Estate Winery that merges contemporary wine-making technologies with an authentic architectural response to the agricultural region of Niagara-on-the-Lake, and the Cardinal Ambrozic Houses of Providence which was designed to transcend the institutional environment typical of long-term care with a responsive, communal model. Mitch was the design associate for the critically-acclaimed dance training centre for the Canada’s National Ballet School (in joint venture with Goldsmith Borgal & Company Ltd. Architects) and is currently directing the design for the new Quantum-Nano Research Centre at the University of Waterloo. Mitch has been a guest critic at various academic institutions including the University of Toronto, McGill University and Ryerson. In 2003, he was the keynote speaker at the Sheridan College convocation celebration. He continues to conduct interviews and tours of the Jackson-Triggs Winery, which has been identified as a model of good design and business with awards such as the 2003 National Post/Design Exchange Awards. |
